History

For nearly 70 years,  the Junior Garden Club of Lake Forest has been actively promoting gardening and is an organization whose members share all aspects of gardening. The club is located in Lake Forest, Illinois.

The club was started in 1958 as a gathering of friends who shared plants and plant cuttings. Historical records indicate the first reported president of the Junior Garden Club was Mrs. T. Armour. Over the years the scope of the JGC's work has grown from plant swapping and gardening techniques to civic beautification projects, community planting initiatives, and conservation programs.

The first Garden Walk was held in 1989. Today the Junior Garden Club holds its primary garden walk as a  fundraiser. The garden walk showcases some of the finest local gardens, promoting gardening as well as raising funds for philanthropic causes.

In 2024 the JGC became the 200th member of the Garden Club of America.

The Junior Garden Club of Lake Forest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
